Meru National Park

A remote and wildlife-rich park of rivers, forests, and open plains, Meru offers excellent game viewing with low visitor density. Famous as the setting for Born Free, it combines classic wilderness with a strong conservation legacy.

Meru National Park lies east of Mount Kenya in a beautifully varied landscape shaped by thirteen permanent rivers, dense riverine forests, open grasslands, and volcanic hills. Once home to George and Joy Adamson and made famous by the story of Born Free, Meru has a long and important conservation history. Today, the park supports healthy populations of elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and both black and white rhino, while its relative remoteness ensures a quiet, uncrowded safari experience. With its striking scenery, rich biodiversity, and sense of space, Meru offers a rewarding alternative to Kenya’s more visited parks, appealing to guests seeking classic wilderness, excellent wildlife, and tranquillity.
