Tarangire

Tarangire

Baobab landscapes and some of East Africa’s largest elephant herds.

Why Tarangire?

The Elephant Stronghold of Northern Tanzania

Tarangire National Park is defined by its ancient baobabs, sweeping savannah and the Tarangire River, which becomes a lifeline during the dry season. Between June and October, wildlife gathers along the riverbanks in remarkable concentration, creating some of northern Tanzania’s most rewarding dry-season game viewing.

The park is particularly renowned for its large elephant herds, often seen moving in family groups beneath towering baobabs. Lion, leopard, buffalo and abundant plains game are regularly encountered, while birdlife flourishes year-round.

Tarangire works exceptionally well at the beginning or end of a northern circuit itinerary, offering strong wildlife viewing with fewer vehicles than the Serengeti. It pairs naturally with Ngorongoro, Chem Chem or the Serengeti, adding landscape diversity and seasonal depth to a broader safari journey.
