YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION

For travellers entering Kenya from Tanzania through the Tarime-Migori Border post

Please note that while Tanzania is not considered to be an endemic country and as such there should be no requirement for Yellow Fever vaccination to enter Kenya from Tanzania, we have had a number of instances where guests have been asked to provide proof of vaccination on entering Kenya specifically through the Tarime-Migori border crossing. Due to this and to avoid unfortunate misunderstandings, we advise travellers using this route to ensure they are vaccinated before travel and carry their vaccination documents with them.  .

Vaccination Guidelines

  • The Yellow Fever vaccine is a single dose vaccine which provides lifetime immunity

  • Travellers to endemic and high-risk countries should receive the Yellow Fever vaccine at least 10 days before travel

  • All travellers must present a valid International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), also known as the Yellow Card.

Vaccination Exemption Guidelines

It is crucial to follow the international standard for Yellow Fever vaccine exemptions to avoid issues at border health checks. To comply with International Health Regulations (IHR), travelers who are medically exempt from the Yellow Fever vaccine must still have an official Yellow Card with the exemption documented correctly. The process includes:

  1. Filling out the ICVP (Yellow Card) – The "Medical Contraindications to Vaccination" section of the ICVP must be completed, signed, and validated by a licensed Yellow Fever vaccination center

  2. Using the Official Uniform Stamp – The exemption must be validated with the Uniform Stamp of the center where the vaccine would have been administered. This stamp is mandatory for the exemption to be internationally recognized.

  3. Providing an Exemption Letter – In addition to the stamped ICVP, the traveler must carry a signed and dated exemption letter on official letterhead from a healthcare provider. This letter must state the specific medical contraindication (e.g., immunosuppressive condition, age, or allergy) and include an imprint of the same Uniform Stamp used on the ICVP.
