Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Canopy walks and chimpanzees in montane rainforest.

Why Nyungwe?

Mist, Canopy and Primate Trails

Nyungwe National Park protects one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests - a vast, mist-laced canopy stretching across Rwanda’s southwestern highlands. Dense vegetation, winding trails and layered forest habitats create a setting that feels both immersive and quietly powerful.

Chimpanzee tracking is the park’s highlight, offering energetic and often vocal encounters within thick forest terrain. Nyungwe is also home to numerous other primate species and exceptional birdlife, making it one of the most biodiverse regions in Rwanda.

Beyond tracking, the suspended canopy walkway offers a rare perspective high above the forest floor, while guided hikes reveal waterfalls, tea plantations and hidden ridgelines. Nyungwe pairs naturally with Volcanoes National Park or safari destinations in Kenya and/or Tanzania, creating a itinerary that balances primates, forests, savannah and wildlife.
